First You Need A Garden Survey
Before any professional landscaper can start a design, or even quote a fee, they must go to survey the project site and take detailed measurements.

If anyone tells you otherwise - consider it a big red flag! 🚩

A garden survey is essential before creating a landscape design, because it ensures that the design is accurate, achievable, and tailored to your garden’s unique characteristics. 

Here’s what a good survey gives you:
  • Accurate Measurements - A garden survey provides exact measurements of your space, including boundaries, slopes, and existing features. This removes any guesswork and ensures every part of your garden is used efficiently.
  • ​Understanding Site Conditions - The survey identifies key factors that affect the design, including soil type and quality, sunlight and shade patterns, drainage, water flow, and changes in ground levels. These details directly influence plant selection, pathways, patios, walls, and the overall usability of your garden.
  • ​Identifying Potential Problems - Hidden issues like poor drainage, uneven ground, or overhanging trees could cause delays or extra costs if found later. A survey uncovers these challenges early, allowing your designer to plan solutions in advance. This saves you time, money, and unnecessary stress.
  • ​Working with Existing Features - If your garden already has elements like trees, patios, or sheds, the survey helps your designer to include them seamlessly in the design and suggest improvements or removal where needed.
  • ​Meeting Regulations - A professional survey ensures your design complies with local rules and stays within your property lines to avoid legal problems. It also reduces the risk of damage to underground pipes or cables.
  • ​Designing to Suit Your Vision - The survey includes a consultation where our design team learns about your preferences, goals, and how you plan to use the garden. This ensures the final design matches your vision perfectly.
  • ​Saving Time and Money - By identifying challenges and opportunities early on, a garden survey prevents costly changes later in the design or construction stages. It provides a strong foundation for the project and keeps everything on track.
"OK, How Much?"
A proper survey and design process is the best way to accurately price a landscape installation and ensure your investment results in a garden you’ll love for years to come.

However many landscaping companies don't take the necessary time and care to do this important work.

Instead they just make an initial 'quote' (guess) for the whole project, then add a 'design fee' of 10-15% on top!

For example, if your build is £50,000 your design fee could be anywhere from £5,000 to £7,500.

And even garden designers who work on a consulting basis - which means they don't take responsibility for build times and budget - will still charge you anywhere from 10% to 15% of the overall project budget to design the garden.

We don’t like these kinds of shortcuts that lead to uncertainty and needless expense.

So instead, we give our clients clear, fixed, upfront pricing at every stage.

Our garden survey fee is only £1,000.

Then right after the survey is complete, we confirm the design fee and get your approval before we start the design.

This will typically be between £3,000 and £9,000 depending on the size and scope of your project. Which is why the survey underpins everything from how it looks to what it costs.

Then as we work through the design process, you're involved throughout and able to talk through changes to your design if it’s not exactly how you visualised it along the way.

You will see exactly where your investment is going and we can adjust the features and details according to your preferences.

And you will know the exact installation price before the design is finalised.

Plus, we give you 2 rounds of revisions included in the design package, so you can make any changes you need to before the build starts.

Frankly, working with us couldn’t be any easier because we’re very detail-oriented and won’t let anything fall through the cracks.
